Dreaming of a well-deserved holiday but finding it tough to set money aside? Whether you're planning a tropical getaway or a cultural city escape, saving extra cash doesn’t have to be complicated. While these tips won't fly you across the world in first class, they will help ensure you have those extra dollar bills to afford more of the travel experiences you dream of.

Use Cashback & Reward Programs

The Cashrewards app is by far my favourite and is a fantastic way to earn cashback on everyday purchases, from groceries to online shopping. Simply log into your Cashrewards account, click the link to the store you're wanting to buy from, and watch your holiday fund grow effortlessly.

My most popular Cashrewards come from Coles, Woolworths, and BWS, with rewards ranging from 2%-13% cash back. Over time this really adds up!

Take on a Side Hustle

A side hustle can be a great way to earn additional income. Consider freelance work, pet sitting, tutoring, or participating in online surveys. Even a few extra hours a week can add up over time.

The best survey platform I have found (and I have tried a few), is Pureprofile. They offer well paid surveys that typically range from 50c-$5 and they offer cashback through bank transfer or a range of gift card options. Again, this one really adds up overtime and can be done in

your spare time. Click the link below to get started.

Round-Up Savings & Automate Transfers

Many banks offer round-up savings features, which round up purchases to the nearest dollar and deposit the difference into a savings account. Additionally, set up an automatic transfer of a small amount each week to your holiday fund—you won’t even notice it’s gone!

Track Your Spending & Set a Goal

Start by setting a clear savings goal for your holiday. Break it down into smaller, manageable amounts and track your progress. It's true that the current cost of living makes financial freedom more difficult, which in turn, makes saving for travel harder.

I recommend WeMoney. This app allows you to track your finances and spending habits to pay off your debts faster and manage your money wiser. By identifying unnecessary payments and taking steps towards being financially responsible, your well-deserved holiday can come sooner.

Cut Down on Coffee Runs

As much as it pains me to say it, spending $5.50 on coffee everyday is expensive. And no, while I do not agree with the Boomers that believe that cutting out coffee everyday will afford you a house deposit, I do recognise that it does add up.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying to give up that cup of dopamine, but I definitely recommend investing in a coffee machine. After you've made your own coffee, transfer the $5 that you would've spent at a shop into that travel account and watch the savings grow overtime.

That morning cappuccino will taste even sweeter when you're overlooking the colosseum from a rooftop bar in Rome ;)

Sell Unused Items

Declutter your home and make some extra cash by selling items you no longer need. Platforms like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and Depop make it easy to turn unwanted clothes, gadgets, or furniture into travel money.

By making these small, intentional changes to your spending habits and finding creative ways to earn extra cash, you can build your travel fund faster than you think. Happy saving—and happy travels!
